A friend has a S & W 2213 that he is thinking of parting with. I know nothing about this gun except that it looks like a neat little 22 auto. Can anyone educate me on this piece?

Your Model 422 is a real beauty! Thought about getting one when they first came out but was pretty much a Ruger Mk.II fan by that time to ever make the change!

Mine has many, many thousands of rounds down the pipe and I can remember maybe 2 malfs other than the occasional dud rimfire primer. The 422 is aluminum framed and the rails are just starting to get a little worn- there is a tiny bit of slop in the slide when you shake it- so I have gone from using light oil to red grease for lube. Accuracy and reliability have not suffered at all, however.

As much as I like the MK series, the ergos and controls on the 422 fit me better. My kids actually hate the Ruger, but love shooting the Smith.

I have often kicked myself for not picking up a steel framed 2206 when I had the chance a few years ago. Pretty sure the 2213 is steel too.

Great pistols!

BTW, they make excellent suppressor hosts as well. Swap out the barrel nut and you're ready to rock.

I own a 2214 (the blued version of the 2213). It is a superb little plinker. It's accurate and eats everything I feed it. The only downside is that the 8 round mags are had to find and very expensive when you do find them. The 10 and 12 round mags from the 422/622/2206 models work in them but they stick out ~.5".

My friend wants to part with it because he says it jams frequently. Thought I might pick it up, clean and lubricate it well and see how it works,

Huh, thats strange- mine is dead reliable with every ammo Ive ever tried, even when filthy.....

Taking down the slide is interesting- it helps to have a fired .22 case handy. There are Youtube videos showing how to do it.

I would look closely at the magazine for damaged feed lips and/or a weak spring. Let us know what you find!

I have a 2213, thing is reliable and very accurate. If it is jaming, maybe the springs need to be replaces. I think you can still get them from gun springs.com.

joneb: "I have a S&W 2214 4" that looks like yours and it has been flawless with good 22lr ammo".

May I offer an opinion?
I don't think the M-2214 was offered with a 4 inch barrel, I could be wrong. I think the other Models, 422, 622 & 2206 were offered with a 4" or a 6" barrel
