Thanks Dad! My dad just gifted me a Blackhawk Convertible he picked up a few years back.

Its a 357/9mm in nice shape. Dates to 1972. Dad sent to Ruger for the transfer bar but Ruger refused because the barrel had been Magnaported. Thats fine with me because she has a nice trigger. Just going to be loud with 357s I imagine.

I wanted a shorter barrel, but this girl balances nice. Looking forward to cooler temps in AZ to wring her out.

Yes, those grips are getting replaced!

Congratulations!

I agree, new grips couldn't hurt the eyes. How much extra flash does the magnaport give you? Longer barrels can be really nice if you're not packing the gun often.

I picked out some walnut burl blanks from Chiggs Grips and they were in my mailbox in two weeks. check out his website, there may be something there that strikes your fancy.

Nice gun your Dad had done up, he has great taste!

Let us know how it shoots when you get a chance to get out .

Stay safe.

Congrats! Nice gift.

I’d try shooting it with those grips just to see how they feel. Can’t hurt. Looks aren’t everything.

I am interested in what kind of flash you get from those ports. I shot a 4” magna-ported revolver years ago. It was pretty bright with Magnum loads.

Not only are those grips ugly IMO, but they fit poorly--they are too small so I am guessing with heavy loads it will be less than comfortable. Dad thinks he has the original grips somewhere. But as a gift, I'd like to dressed up, not pimp it out

Good on your dad to get you such an awesome gift. Personally I'm not offended by those faux pearl grips but it they're a poor fit then I would sell them on Ebay and look for something else. The factory original grips on my Blackhawk cleaned up very nicely and are a perfect fit.

Also if you go looking for new grips make sure you're getting ones for your particular grip frame. I think yours is the XR3-RED grip frame.

Nice Blackhawk!

Sooooooo, what was the first?:)

Ive only actually owned one single action in my time so far- a flat-latch Single Six which I stoopdidly (sic) sold (banging head on wall).

But my Dad has a really nice older Stainless Blackhawk which I shot a lot as a kid and will likely be mine someday. It was his first center-fire handgun and performed nightstand duty for many years until being replaced by a M1917 revolver, and finally a Ballester Molina which still defends his patch today!

Im kinda kickin around the idea of picking up a Wrangler, just cuz, or maybe a New Frontier .22 at some point. Most single-actions just dont get my motor running.....

NIGHTLORD40K

If a Colt New Frontier .22 (with that fine looking color case hardened frame), doesn't get your motor going I think it's maybe time to check things under the hood...in a manner of speaking!

Still kick myself for trading away the couple that I did have years ago.

Ya, I just looked at the one I was considering again on my lunch break.....its still there at a good price, lol. Ill probably go back tomorrow to fill out the paper work.

BigBlue 94

Your oh so shiny looking Blackhawk with the faux ivory grips is perfect for any BBQ you might have out on the prairie!

Funny but your Blackhawk kind of reminds me of some other Ruger single action I have seen...

Oh yeah now I remember!

Yeah I would say it's long past due to get some more rounds down range!

My grandpa bought it I think in the late 80s and never fired it. I shot three and my dad shot three a few years after he passed. Has some fancy lock work and trigger work. A feather would nearly set it off.

I need to get a lot of my guns out to stretch their legs. Been too long since ive done much shooting. Living on 80 acres now so things will be changing.

Nice revolver.

Ruger refused to transfer from OM to NM? I remember when they were taking out ads and practically begging people in order to avoid liability. Strange to think that the porting would put them off. Oh well, your gain.

Congrats both you and your Dad, stunning gift.
Allow me, to cordially disagree if my father were to pass me down a gift like that I won't modify for nothing in the wold.
Enjoy it.

Why on earth would you change those grips, lol?

Congratulations. Keep the "pearl" stocks.

Now that you have two single actions, does
that make you a double action shooter? :)
