I'm looking for something like a left handed bergara hmr in 223. does such an animal exist? or am I going to be looking at building something? And if I build, is there a way to do it that doesn't cost $2000+?

I'd thought I might find a used Remington 700 and put in a barrel nut prefit (remage) but I cannot really find a left handed 700 in 223. Ptg has a receiver, but at $700 I might as well be looking at custom actions. And if I'm doing a custom, I might as well make it a 223 Ackley.....

Tikka, CZ, and Ruger at one time made them, but no longer.

And I know I'm ruling out the biggest and cheapest option, but if I can not do a savage I'd like to do so. I find them to be chunky, rough, and ugly. (I have one, and my xbolt blows it out of the water in terms of feel)

I know those companies made a few left-handed bolt guns, but most were in more common cartridges. 30-06, 270, 243 and 308 were usually the only options. They may have made a few in 223, but I've never seen one.

My brother shoots lefty. He tried several left-handed and ambidextrous gun styles over the years and could never find a rifle in the cartridges he wanted that he liked. He finally decided he'd rather shoot the rifles, and cartridges he liked from the wrong side. He is pretty adept at it. He's not handicapped at all. I know if I were left-handed, I'd just buy a right-handed bolt rifle. I'm right-handed but practice shooting from the left side a little and it isn't that hard to do. The only caveat is to avoid rifle stocks with high combs and cheek pieces that can only be shot from one side.

In fact if it's going to be a rifle primarily shot from the bench it's an advantage. There are some custom bench rifles out there that load on the right side for right-handed shooters, but they move the bolt to the left side. You can load and shoot faster and easier that way from a bench.

I have considered that. but even then, not a lot of right handed 223 bolt guns that are not a traditional hunting style stock. I'm seeing the american gen 2, or the winchester xpr, and there aren't a lot of aftermarket stock options for that. maybe the cz 600 alpha?

Bergara catalogs a lefty in 22-250 with a 1-9" twist.
I had a Remington 700 varmint in 223 it had a 1-12" twist.

Browning makes a left hand X-Bolt in 223. I have one in 308 and it has been my go to deer rifle for 10 years. Might take a look.

I have that same rifle in 308 as well. it's nice. especially after I had it threaded and replaced the trigger spring to improve the pull weight.
