What is the most recent knife you bought?

Griptillian on sale. Not terribly impressed.

I think I've gone backward as a knife snob. The Adamas. The micro tech, the griptillian, the Leatherman charge+ titanium....all let downs. I carry a sog trident, some random Kershaw i forgot the name of (breeze/blaze..idk. 1670 steel assisted open and says oct. 06 on it, or a buck 284 if I don't want a clip showing.

Growing up id look at the smkw magazine and pick out the knives I wanted. Camillus, Henkel, ka bar, bear and son... etc etc. Then id go to the flea market and buy the 10 dollar piece of junk I could afford. Lol. Jaguar or something. Lol. I would think they were super awesome until they got dull using them to dig ginseng or the tip broke off using it for a screwdriver. Or they just went dull in my pocket. Never could sharpen a knife. Can hand build a 1911 or an 800 HP coyote, Jz, or small block. So its not that I lack attention to detail. I just nail a couple knives and then the next one gets duller and duller. Lol.

Now I go in smkw which is about 1.5-2 hrs away from me, and buy something new after reading about the new super duper steel that never dulls and and has 4 life time guarantees. I swear they get dull just as fast as the junk "stainless" or 440 I bought years ago. Crucible, d2, 154cm, M4, 8cr13, magnacut, Cruwear.... can't tell much difference.

And I use a worksharp on all my knives except zt and benchmade. I send those in. They come back about half as sharp as I can get them with the worksharp. I just ruin the tips on them all with my worksharp. Shaving sharp in about 1 minute. Ugly tip. Plus I can un-tonto a Tonto blade in about 3 seconds. Lol

I think I'm to the point id rather have an American made knife with crap steel than a Chinese knife with great steel.

Guns im probably more snob today than ever. Watches too. Motorcycles and knives I think I'm the opposite of a snob. Lol

The best Kabar were made 30-40 years ago. All steels will dull using any mechanical sharpener removes too much metal. Hand sharpening by someone who knows how will make a knife last almost forever.

The instructional video from Work Sharp will help you not make that mistake.
I've tried. Letting of before the tip and all. On a round profile blade like a sog vulcan I do fine. Even a kitchen knife or ka-bar or similar i do fine. But any spear point or small clip point or similar and I round it. Same for Tonto. Be hard to keep the profile. Don't bother me though. No sharper than the experts at benchmade or zt do with those id rather have a clean shaving ugly blade than their mediocre sharp blades in my pocket.

I did forget an m16 from crkt. I carry those some too. Small and handy. Made in China though

I got a couple in D2 for pack knives and another in AUS8 for EDC. That one could stand to be sharper, probably work on it this weekend. Not sure if it'll be a permanent replacement for my Buck, but Ill give it a trial period.
Many knives have tried to replace my buck 110 but ultimately all failed for various reasons. It doesn’t hold an edge as well as others but it hones to a razor sharp and handles most tasks with aplomb.
Sorry, but at $20 at SMKW that will be an etched damascus pattern instead of actual layered steel.
glad I only paid $10 for it. After examining the top of the blade I saw that you are correct it is acid etched. Still a nice light pocket knife. We shall see how the edge holds up after a couple of weeks.

...

Box o $15 D2 BK42s
I bought 2 of them when I saw your post on the sale, as well as a multi tool/bit driver for common gun screws. I really like the size and design of this knife, would be cool if they offered one in better materials. A Ti frame lock would be sweet. I carried it the last couple days at this weeks horse show, at $15 I don't worry about loaning it to somebody but its still nice enough I can use it.

I gotta stop looking at knives so I can stop buying knives, but it's from my buddy Kim Breed and I think out of his first billet of feather.

For folks curious how many steps are needed to make feather damascus.

First you make a billet of W pattern damascus. o_O
