Griptillian on sale. Not terribly impressed.
I think I've gone backward as a knife snob. The Adamas. The micro tech, the griptillian, the Leatherman charge+ titanium....all let downs. I carry a sog trident, some random Kershaw i forgot the name of (breeze/blaze..idk. 1670 steel assisted open and says oct. 06 on it, or a buck 284 if I don't want a clip showing.
Growing up id look at the smkw magazine and pick out the knives I wanted. Camillus, Henkel, ka bar, bear and son... etc etc. Then id go to the flea market and buy the 10 dollar piece of junk I could afford. Lol. Jaguar or something. Lol. I would think they were super awesome until they got dull using them to dig ginseng or the tip broke off using it for a screwdriver. Or they just went dull in my pocket. Never could sharpen a knife. Can hand build a 1911 or an 800 HP coyote, Jz, or small block. So its not that I lack attention to detail. I just nail a couple knives and then the next one gets duller and duller. Lol.
Now I go in smkw which is about 1.5-2 hrs away from me, and buy something new after reading about the new super duper steel that never dulls and and has 4 life time guarantees. I swear they get dull just as fast as the junk "stainless" or 440 I bought years ago. Crucible, d2, 154cm, M4, 8cr13, magnacut, Cruwear.... can't tell much difference.
And I use a worksharp on all my knives except zt and benchmade. I send those in. They come back about half as sharp as I can get them with the worksharp. I just ruin the tips on them all with my worksharp. Shaving sharp in about 1 minute. Ugly tip. Plus I can un-tonto a Tonto blade in about 3 seconds. Lol
I think I'm to the point id rather have an American made knife with crap steel than a Chinese knife with great steel.
Guns im probably more snob today than ever. Watches too. Motorcycles and knives I think I'm the opposite of a snob. Lol
