What have you done in the reloading room today

Never thought I'd see the day when I would be buying powder "Just Because", but here it is.

I did that during the last powder shortage. Although I wound up with 2 powders I really liked... RedDot and IMR4227... I also wound up with horrible TiteGroup, which just hangs around like a cold sore. You might make a list of powders you might want to pick up... using published data as a guide, because it's always better to have valid data for any powder you might buy, and data that works for how you handload. Luck favors the prepared.

Look at it this way, by the time you actually need powder again the crisis will be over and the prices will be tolerable. Maybe even good.

I kind of alluded to that on the Alliant is Gone thread. If you have a reasonable stash of powder... don't freak out and start buying crazy stuff. Just be chillin. Have enough for your immediate needs and a reserve. Everything is cyclical... this will either correct itself, or something earth-shattering will happen... and it won't matter anymore.

If unique was gone forever "just a mental game for now" I'd take a hard look at n350. Does just about everything we do pretty well. From 45acp to 45c to 41mag.... I wish n105 was still a thing, but if we're going to go all fantasy the trailboss crowd would be the loudest right now...

Thanks Charlie. Good points. I just loaded some Unique (getting LOW on what I have left), and also some (new to me) Hodgdon HS-6 that I have never used before, but I know the load data and It will work for me. Looking forward to the range this weekend. I don't mind Titegroup, but it's not a biggie in my powder drop. It burns fairly clean in 45 Colt, so it's "OK". I will go through what I have. Reloaders seem to either love or hate that powder. I'm one of the few in the middle. Hodgdon H-110 and HP-38 I still can get and I do use them frequently.

I went old school and made some 30-30

21.5 N133
170 SP
Winchester brass and primer

Keeping it mild as it only needs to ring steel from 100-300 yards.

Those are badass……!!!
Looks like it would be used for vampire extinguishing …..
Silver bullet out of a levergun………..AWESOME…!!

There are a few mainstays... those are two of them, TiteGroup is another, even if I don't personally like it, it does work well in some applications... 9mm, for example.

Let me try N140, first... ;)
If you’ve never tried it, Nitro 100 has everything TiteGrope has but doesn’t heat treat your barrel for you. I first got it when Red Dot disappeared briefly in the 90’s. I stopped using it because it disappeared for a while post-Y2K and by the time it came back I was hooked on No.2 for 230gr LRN. Now I have Competition, No.2 and Red Dot but no Nitro 100. 🤣

Back in the mid to late 90s I reloaded quite a bit of Royal Scot Powder. Not sure how I stumbled upon that at the time. Maybe it was on sale at the LGS. I really liked that powder. I wish I could still get it. I still have their reloading pamphlet in a binder on my bench.

Never tried any Finnish Vihtavuori powders. I would like to. I dated a gal from Finland once. She was explosive.

Today I got motivated with regard to my 10mm brass. I deprimed/sized and flared somewhere around 700-800 cases. 250 were brand new Starline, and the rest were old range pickup cases.

I've already got probably a little over 1000 primed 10mm cases, so I'll hold off on priming these for now.

Next up is some reduced recoil .257 Roberts rounds with 100 grain bullets for my daughter...

'Mornin' Gents.

I got the small (25 cartridge) loading blocks for my range reloading kit yesterday. They are very nice. They even have rubber feet to stay put on the bench. These are the dark blocks in the foreground. I added other blocks for scale. The new blocks are very thin, yet hold the cartridge well. The photo is showing deep shadow from a light source on the bench, and that is projecting a mock thickness to the new blocks that they do not have.

Got all three pistol sizes, and they are color coded for convenience. These work from small cartridges all the way up to 45 ACP. Unfortunately, the largest does not work with 45 Colt. The rim on 45 Colt is just a tad too big to fit into the largest hole block. I am working with the designer/manufacturer/seller to make one that fits 45 Colt. The holes just need another millimeter or so for the 45 Colt to fit. Because of their low profile and size, they are perfect for my range reloading kit. I am probably going to order his 50 count blocks for my bench once I know he can resize the large to accomodate 45 Colt.

The small bottles for the range reloading kit powder transport should be here today, so I can actually complete that kit by Friday.

If one is making a portable kit. Wouldn't blocks up the volume quite a bit? Maybe just use ammo boxes you brought...

Thought of that. These small 25 cartridge blocks are not much bigger than an ammo box cartridge holder, and they accommodate more sizes. They are so thin, I can stack all three in one foam cutout and call it done.

Washed and dried two loads of wet cleaning. Going to sort and put them away shortly. Then I need to set up my new rcbs 7.7 dies and form those 50 cases....
I loaded up some test rounds yesterday and for kicks I used a diffrent shell holder than the one in the box to see how different it was. Lyman was .025 longer than Hornaday. I put the Hornaday back in and it was 1.585 just perfect. I learned a little while ago it makes enough difference in 308 the case won't chamber, but I hadent ever measured. Most I can't immage are that diffrent....

Yes...one of my favorite You Tubers says doesn't matter whose dies you use, as long as dies and shell holders are the same brand.
