I haven't been to the gun store for a couple of weeks. That's a long time for me. I was halfway expecting a get well card in the mail.

Anyway, my wife and I stopped by today, just to spread good cheer and boost the moral of the working people you know, but sure enough, there in the corner of one cabinet, they had "casually" stuck something that was likely to catch my eye.
It was a top break Harrington and Richardson, with a 4" barrel. :what: I have wanted one of those since I was a teen, slobbering over the Shooters Bible, like most boys did a stolen Playboy. I mean I knew what to do with a gun. I wasn't sure at all about the Playboy stuff. I had visions of running a trapline "up north" somewhere, with a H&R top break by my side, even though I didn't know exactly where "up north" was, and I knew less about a trapline than I did about that Playboy stuff.

I owned a H&R 999 at one time, but it had a 6" barrel, and was missing a rear sight. I couldn't find a sight blade for it, and ended up eventually selling it to someone. I have literally never seen one with a 4" barrel. Until today.

Alas, it's not a 999 after all. It's a 926, which as best I can determine, the only difference is the 926 doesn't have the automatic ejector the 999 has. Ejection is manually by an ejector rod at the front of the cylinder. Other than that it appears to be about the same. According to the S/N this one was made about 1976, and still looks to be in pretty decent shape. It's a top break, 9 shot, DA/SA revolver. Crappy cell phone picture inbound.

It's resting quietly in the lay-a-way bin for the time being. I can't think of any reason to have it, other than the 14-15 year old kid who lives in me jumped with joy when he saw it. And it has a rear sight! I noticed some previous owner had put a drop of glue on the adjustment screws.

I had one many moons ago, but couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from the inside with it. Traded it along with a Ithaca shot gun for a S&W model 18 with 4" barrel and a extra .22 mag cylinder. I had no trouble hitting beer cans at 35 feet consistently with the S&W. Don't know why I couldn't shoot the H&R.

I had another H&R some years ago that I couldn't shoot well either. I remember shooting it one morning and thinking I was having a bad day. Switched over to my Model 17 and started shooting the X-ring out of the target. Same target, same range, same ammo.

I just want this one for grins and giggles. ;) :) I don't "need" a real reason.

they had a H&R .22 mag that looks like the Henry Revolver at my New Shop.. $200! perfect condition, I didn’t even look at it.

I will be clear up with Layaway in about 2 weeks. 6 GUNS! So Nope, no more until a Unicorn come thur again … Will be shooting .44 mag and .454C all summer long

I love the break top h&r revolvers, that is literally only the 2nd 4" one I've seen. I almost bought the other one, but it was about 100 more than I wanted to spend. While I was thinking some older gentleman at the gun show snapped it up. HE knew what he was looking at, I did not or I wouldn't have waffled. Nice shooter!

There was another old coot eyeing my wife and I as we looked at it. I figure he was waiting to pounce if I even put it down on the counter. :)

They wanted more for this one, than I really wanted to spend ($500), but I thought of the advice I throw out here and there so often "When was the last time you saw one for less? (I've never seen another one with a 4" barrel.) When do you expect to see another one at all?" (Probably never.) I decided to just bite the bullet. It didn't help that my wife was standing there saying "It's ONLY $500. Get it." I must have looked pitiful because they did knock 10% off upon inquiry "Can you do any better on the price?"

Too bad that trapline thing isn't going to work out. Besides, I'd need a red and black wool coat and a pipe for that.

Ah, we are such enablers here! ;)
That same argument has floated through my head, more often than I care to admit.
CajunBass, there is something about a top break. The Brits went down that road to the bitter end, but most mfgs here gave up at the end of the 19th Century. Less expensive to make hand ejectors? Stronger frame? (Elmer Keith would have made short work of a top break....)
In any case, I like them too. Nice catch, and the 4" is better looking than the 6".

they still have that H&R for $200 available! don’t remember the model number, but the barrel has a groove on it near the extract rod. .22 Mag! cool looking revolve too
