So, You Want To Start Casting…?

Read up on it, as March noted, Lyman publishes a casting handbook. Google Glen Fryxell and the LASC book. there are a few casting sites, and I'm sure many here are quite skilled at casting theory and activities. With some reservations, you can make it as hard or easy as you want. It ain't...

    Colorado Weapons Ban

Interesting that one unsure vote on the Senate committee was Sullivan, father of an Aurora theater shooting victim. Makes me think he is pretty levelheaded, wanting to get to the real issues of mass shootings, rather than pursuing the tools instead of the mindsets. I wonder how many AR...

Do you guys mount your own scopes?

Some comments on scope mounting: My gun club opens to the public each Sept and October for hunter sight-in. Members serve as range officers after some training. I enjoy it as I enjoy teaching people about their guns. I'd estimate I see 5-10 people a day (of the five days I try to work,) who...

What is going on with guns

One cannot rely on forums and internet lawyers. Go to the source. Every state has internet access to its statutes. In Colorado, they're called Colorado Revised Statutes or CRS. In addition, each legislative session publishes its activities each year during the session. With a little...

    Powder preservation

So, maybe I'm interpreting wrong.... One pic shows "IMR4831", and others say "WWII"... Does that mean one is commercial IMR 4831, and the others are powder left from old powders left or scavanged from old military stores? I guess I'll go pull some old rounds and check some. OTOH, I did...

    Let’s talk vintage reloading presses

Aye HPS1: Looks like a fine old gun. Now you can load up a few appropriate shells, find some old wool knickers and an Elmer hat and do some period pheasant hunting. Bet it'd be fun. I used to shoot Colo pheasants with an old Stevens single barrel 410. Kudos on your new discovery! -West out

how did it start for you?

Believe it or not, through the years, we had two dogs, one a mutt collie, and a Weimaraner both of whom would not eat the skinned jacks we shot, so we gave up shooting jacks. The mutt collie could catch jacks occasionally, and the weimaraner was dumber than dirt. He spent many a night chained to...

how did it start for you?

Pretty similar to Bartojc: Raised on wheat/cattle place in eastern Colo. There was always a 410 or Wards 22 sitting in a corner. Only issue was mother yelling "is that thing loaded?" Shot rabbits when I was big enough to shoulder the 22. Learned my basic animal anatomy there. We had the...

    Little help with .308 sizing.

hehe, that is kinda messy... Did it once with new 223 AI, albeit not intentionally. It took me hours to find a brass rod to clear it, not to mention cleaning all the powder out of the action. Last few years, I cannot find brass rod at any of the big box stores around Denver. McMaster has it at...

    Let's talk 40gr & lighter loads in 223

Not exactly what you're shooting, but I've been doing 27.3 grains of AA2230 under Calhoon 42 gn bullets for a Win heavy varmint std 223 /10 twist. Same load in 223 Ackley/14 twist with Hornady 40 VMaxes. BUT, remember to work up and YMMV. -West out

    Little help with .308 sizing.

I started out FL sizing cases, but soon decided neck sizing made sense to me. I separate brass by headstamp into discrete lots ID'd by chronological numbering and times fired. I don't have multiple rifles of the same cartridge but do delegate brass lots to specific guns. I've had to set back...
